Economic diplomacy
Turning Kenya’s foreign relations into trade, investment and jobs, and opening markets for Kenyan business across the world.
Why this matters
Economic diplomacy is the first pillar of Kenya’s foreign policy. Every mission abroad carries a commercial mandate: to grow exports, attract investment and open doors for Kenyan enterprise in the markets it serves.
Working with KenInvest, the Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency and sector regulators, the Ministry connects investors to opportunity and helps Kenyan firms reach buyers, partners and capital beyond our borders.
Kenya’s position as the gateway to East Africa, its membership of the East African Community, COMESA and the African Continental Free Trade Area, gives partners preferential access to a market of over a billion people.

Kenya’s approach
Commercial desks in every mission
Embassies and high commissions run commercial desks that field investor inquiries, arrange introductions and provide market intelligence.
Attracting quality investment
Coordinating with KenInvest and the Special Economic Zones to bring investment into manufacturing, agribusiness, technology and green energy.
Growing exports
Promoting Kenyan goods and services, from tea and horticulture to technology and creative industries, in new and established markets.
Trade agreements
Negotiating and implementing agreements that lower barriers and secure market access for Kenyan business.
