Why this matters
Kenya’s prosperity depends on a stable neighbourhood. Peace diplomacy is the pillar through which Kenya works for security in the Horn of Africa, the Great Lakes and the wider continent.
Kenya has a long record of mediation and peace support, hosting negotiations, contributing to peacekeeping operations and championing dialogue over conflict. This work protects Kenyan lives, trade routes and investment.
Through the African Union, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development and the United Nations, Kenya presses for African solutions to African challenges, and for a rules-based international order.
